Frequently Asked Questions
- Will My Number Plate Fit?
Our surrounds fit Standard UK and European number plates measuring 520mm x 110mm.
- How Do I Fit My Surrounds?
Separate the two pieces of the frame (Printed and Motorsport frames are already separated) and attach the larger, upper portion of the surround to the car using screws (screws not supplied).
Slide the number plate into the surround making sure the number plate is as high into the surround as it can go.
Take the lower strip and insert one end underneath the corresponding edge of the frame, then by slightly flexing the strip, insert other edge under the other side and click the three fasteners along the base of the strip into place.
The edges of the surround should all be flush with each other.
Take the bottom strip and insert one end underneath the corresponding edge of the frame, then by slightly flexing the strip, insert the other end under the other side and click the three fasteners along the base into place
The edges of the surround should all be flush with each other.
We are occasionally asked if you can stick your surround onto your car with double sided sticky pads? Well, we only reccommend that you screw the surround on, but we are aware of people using only sticky pads. We believe that the thicker 3mm foam variety of pads were used, and that more pads were used than would normally be used to just stick number plates on to allow for the extra 150g weight of the surround.
- How Long Will It Take To Get My Surround?
We’ll get them to you as quickly as we can, Street, Printed and Motorsport surrounds are usually in stock and typically are dispatched within 48 hours. Custom message frames usually take 2 to 3 weeks before dispatch.
- How Many Letters Can I Get On My Custom Message Surround?
We like to keep it to 40, it looks better - but we can squeeze a few more in if it’s important – spaces count as a character and a capital letter only message is significantly bolder than a small case message because the letters are smaller to allow for the ‘tails’ on letters like ‘y’ and ‘p’.
- What Can I Say On My Custom Message Surround?
Anything you like, we're pretty easy going, but we do reserve the right to decline to print anything that we consider might be offensive to anyone, any group or any organisation.
- How Do I Take Care Of My Surround?
Just wash your car as you normally would, you only need to take extra care if you have a custom message surround. With our custom message surrounds you should avoid close washing with power wash equiptment, as the extreme high pressure at the the lance nozzle can occasionally cause the vinyl letters to lift - soap, water or ordinary brush car wash - no problem.
"It's good to be clean" - old Manx saying.
- What Do I Do About The Screw Holes In My Number Plates?
Our surrounds screw directly (or can be stuck) onto your car, but if your number plates are screwed on, fixing the surround directly to the car would leave holes showing in your number plates.
It's an easy fix.
When your surrounds arrive, remove your number plates and fit the plates into the surrounds. Our surrounds have many different holes for easy fitting which should line up with the holes in your number plates, once you've checked this, it's then easy to re-screw the plate with frame to your car - making sure that your original screws are long enough.
(When fitting this way, please be aware that number plates, and the way the holes are drilled varies - very occasionally the frames may need to be drilled - for the perfect fit, do this by drilling through your existing number plate holes with the frame fitted).
- 'Anti-Theft' Number Plate Bolts
If you're concerned about possible number plate theft, you can use 'anti-theft' number plate bolts with our surrounds.
